A mid-sized Regional Bank engaged Endava to build a digital wallet to support cannabis purchases. For this bank, this is a new line of business where they partnered with MSO (multi-state-operators) dispensaries to create a mobile wallet that is branded for the dispensary to allow customers to connect their bank account, load money onto the digital wallet, and pay in-store.
Endava was tasked to design and develop the digital wallet and work within existing flows and systems, such as account creation, and create new ways of working, including transferring and storing money within the digital wallet. From a development perspective, the focus was on requirement gathering and establishing the flow of funds in and out of the digital wallet.
We created a branding template, allowing the digital wallet can be branded in the dispensary’s brand to leverage the established trust that the dispensaries have created for their customers.
Parallel to design, we lead research efforts to understand better the future of cannabis payments and the user’s feelings towards them.
Focused research on the market, as well as adjacent markets to cannabis where digital payments are popular, to pull insights and trends.
We conducted a few rounds of user testing and polls to gather current uses and expectations around paying for cannabis.
